Write an entry about different camera formats and justify the format you would choose for yourself. Take into account the entire (post) production workflow and think about advantages and disadvantages (eg sound syncing, grading, compression etc)
There are a lot of different camera formats that are available to use, first off is the image quality RAW or a JPEG there are plenty more formats like them but they are the most used. JPEG has some advantages but some disadvantages too, like when in post production it is very hard to edit the image by colour correcting the image. This is because when you change the setting to JPEG, this means that the camera has more control over what the image looks like. One advantage that the JPEG has, is the size is a lot more smaller than a RAW file and because of this, if you're shooting an action scene in RAW the camera could buffer up and slow down as its transferring information onto the SD card however if you were shooting in JPEG this wouldn't happen as it's smaller. RAW is a very popular file format and is normally the most preferred format to JPEG. This is because you can do anything you want to it in post production, when you first shoot with RAW it looks very plain and boring, however post production is where you can edit it. In my documentary I will make sure to be shooting in RAW because I dont think we will have trouble with the camera freezing as we aren't shooting anything with fast pace. I also think that RAW is a relevant to this because there will be a lot of wild life shots which would look more aesthetic with colour correction on it to set the scene. The format I will export our documentary in is the H.264 format because I have been using this format for my previous projects for quite awhile. The reason I will use this again is because it is a high quality codec which will compress all the data into a smaller file but still be decent quality.
