Cafeteria
There are a variety of students, teachers/lecturers, cleaners etc, in the canteen. It’s 1pm, which means it is almost each individual’s break for lunch. There are some students, in very particular groups sitting in the edges of the canteen by a window, a group who are all buried in their own phones not interacting with each other, some are alone studying with their earphones in, others look like they are really happy in a big group, they are either smiling or look very interested in what they are saying. There are a pair sitting closely together, a young lady and man looking at the lady’s phone, the two of them look like students, they both seem fairly young and are dressed quite similar. On the other side of the canteen there is another couple sitting together, the man looks like he works in the kitchen because he is wearing an apron and the woman is maybe a lecturer or a member of staff because she is dressed smartly (most students aren’t)! The behaviour of the students and lecturers is quite different, the students’ postures are slouched and relaxed whereas the group of lecturers seem to have straight postures and all seem to look relatively smart. Most of the lecturers and staff are eating a pre-made sandwich brought from the cafeteria; most the students are eating the hot meals whilst on their phones or talking to friends. There is a worker cleaning up various bits of rubbish that have been dropped onto the floor, he keeps walking back and fourth every 10 minutes, pushing chairs in that have been left untidy, brushing up some crumbs that have fallen onto the floor etc. The cleaner seems to have a very friendly attitude, I saw a student sitting alone eating her lunch, on her phone and I couldn’t hear very clearly but I saw the cleaner bring the girl some napkins, and the girl kindly smiles and said ‘thank you’. After 1 hour I came back to see the canteen was pretty much empty, apart from a woman sitting on her phone eating some food, I feel this is quite interesting because the area was packed an hour ago, now its emotionless. I took pictures to compare from when it was busy and when it was empty.
