Stereotypes is a most common idea today, everyone believes that each individual fits into a certain category, for example, the nerd, the sporty person, the goth etc. Stereotyping can be used as identifying someone on the street and automatically analyses the strangers personality. 'A widely held but fixed and oversimplified image or idea of a particular type of person or thing.'
Today I will be analysing the film 'Nerve' to use examples from the film to show the different types of 'stereotypes'. Most films use stereotyping nowadays to keep the audience entertained, for example two different personalities clashing would equal an interesting story plot. I have noticed that most films set in high school use it a lot of it, this is because usually there is a variety of teeenagers in the film that can be easily stereotyped. Going back to the film we have a very insecure girl with a mum who has high expectations for her daughter to go to college. However she hangs out with her group of friends who are very determined to get popular - which is why they have signed up for this 'dare game' and accept all the dares the game tells them to do to get more viewers/watchers. The insecure girl feels very patronised and she doesn't fit in because she isn't a 'player' so she joins the game. Most of the 'players' on the game seem to be the popular people in the school and when the girl starts playing the game the film presents her to look out of place. I think this film is a good example of stereotypes because most teen and independent films really pick out the different types of people/stereotypes.
